Run The Bereavement Journey

The Bereavement Journey is being run by Christians of every denomination for bereaved people in their communities.

Bereavement is one of the hardest times of life and without support, grief can be suppressed and lead to further loss or mental health issues.

Run over 7 weeks, each Session comprises two films, each followed by an opportunity for discussion in a small group, with a break between.  There’s extra group time in Sessions 1 & 6 and Session 7 ends with a time of quiet reflection.

Participants are placed in groups of 6-8 and volunteers guide them in exploring their loss, aided by a Manual.  A qualified counsellor is appointed to advise when required, and step-by-step instructions are provided for the Course Host and Group Leaders, making The Bereavement Journey safe and easy to run.

“I have found the Bereavement Journey incredibly useful and supportive and I can see a way forward, thanks to you and the team.

The Revd Canon Archie Coates, Vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Brompton, where The Bereavement Journey was birthed::

‘I am delighted to endorse The Bereavement Journey - a programme that has been hugely effective over the years both at HTB and beyond in helping people bereaved in a variety of ways cope with their grief. There are many in our communities who are living with unprocessed grief and this is a wonderful tool that will help many people.’

The Leaders’ Pack is provided in downloadable form and includes everything needed for deciding to run the course, including sample films and session leading notes.

Programmes are required to be registered for consistency, after which all resources are provided, including digitally amendable posters and other promotional materials.

We ask that Leaders attend short online training, and that Participant Manuals are purchased in hard copy or digital form for every Leader and Participant.  Other resources, such as ‘Remembering Someone’ badges, signposting cards and the ‘Faith Questions in Bereavement’ booklet may be purchased for guests.

The Bereavement Journey can be run online or in person in the UK and abroad.  Supported by the Loss and HOPE team (a coalition project which equips churches in bereavement support), we are seeking to ensure that there is a church in every community across the UK running The Bereavement Journey, to help the nation address widespread unprocessed grief.
